Eric Malcolm’s last talk

Presented by Sandy Thomson

Cromarty History Society opens the 2016-2017 season on Thursday 15th September in West Church Hall, Cromarty, with a very special evening.

Eric Malcolm gave numerous talks to the Society over a long period - often based on his memories of growing up in Cromarty. But he was also a diligent researcher, working from archive sources. He spent much of 2013-14 at the Highland Archive Centre in Inverness, looking through the log books of Cromarty Higher Grade School from 1913 to 1947 - when his father was the Headmaster. His sad death last year meant that he was unable to share his findings with us himself. At Eric’s own request, Sandy Thomson will present the results of this research - giving a picture of Cromarty school life during the two World Wars and the years in between. Sandy Thomson has been a regular contributor to the Cromarty History Society talks programme ever since he retired from Strathclyde University and moved to Cromarty in 1997. A graduate of Dundee University’s outstanding distance learning course in Scottish History, he has published several articles in ‘History Scotland’ magazine - all focusing on people and events in Cromarty and the surrounding area. He is a former Convener of the Society and was a longtime member of our Committee.

Cromarty History Society meets in the West Church Hall, Cromarty at 7.30pm on the the third Thursday of each month, September - April.
