Major Grant Success for Oral History Project

The Heritage Lottery Fund has just awarded £4,900 for an oral history project in Cromarty. The funding bid was put together by a local consortium of representatives from Cromarty History Society, Cromarty and District Community Council, the National Trust's Hugh Miller Museum, Cromarty Arts Trust, Cromarty Courthouse Museum and Cromarty East Church. The funds will be paid in the first instance to the Community Council as the designated fundholders. The intention is to work with representatives of ARCH, the Highland Archaeology group, and to use old maps and photographs of buildings to stimulate local residents' recollections of the ways in which the local environment has changed over the years.

The planning group will be meeting shortly to take this forward. Watch this space for the latest news.
