Then and Now — Photographs of Cromarty
Followed by festive mulled wine and mince pies
David Kent
Victoria Hall, Cromarty
Cromarty History Society’s Christmas meeting will take place on Tuesday December 16th at the Victoria Hall, starting at 7.30pm. The Speaker will be David Kent, Cromarty Camera Club’s Photographer of the Year, who will show us photographs of ‘Cromarty Then and Now’ doubtless testing our collective memory of the place where we are so lucky to live.
A lecturer at Leeds University, David first came to Cromarty in 2008 and describes the visit as ‘an epiphany’ deciding to move here when he could retire and joined the Camera Club. In 2020 he created a portfolio of the mannequins, dioramas and some artifacts to be viewed in The Courthouse for use in their marketing materials. He then moved on to working with the archivist and management sorting and refurbishing old slides and photographs and photographing parts of the collection. This work has resulted in the presentation to the Society, illustrating how Cromarty and its surroundings have evolved over the past hundred years or so.
As always in December the presentation will be followed by mulled wine, mince pies and other goodies. Entrance is £5 cash but membership for the following four meetings will only cost £15 cash. Under 16s are free to enter. We look forward to seeing you all there.
Members come from the Black Isle and beyond and further information can be found on the Society’s website at www.cromartyhistory.scot. We look forward to meeting you as the new session begins.
