History Prize in Memory of Eric Malcolm (1925-2015) given by Cromarty History Society and Friends of Cromarty Courthouse

For five years, from the summer of 2016 until 2020, Cromarty History Society gifted a voucher worth £25 to Cromarty Primary School, awarded to the pupil who, in their opinion, had shown the most enthusiasm for history during the year.

In addition to the voucher, the prize consisted of a handmade envelope and certificate designed and created by the printmaker John McNaught.

Born in Cromarty, Eric Malcolm was educated for ten years at Cromarty Primary School, which at the time took pupils beyond primary into the first three years of secondary education.  His father was the headmaster.  After completing his schooling at Fortrose Academy, Eric took a degree in Engineering at Glasgow and became a highly successful professional engineer both at home and abroad.  After retiring to Cromarty, he turned his attention to history, distinguishing himself as a speaker and writer on Cromarty's past, especially the achievements of notable Cromarty people.  He was a life member, and one-time convenor, of Cromarty History Society.
